44 year old Singer/songwriter Brett Service is based in Windsor, Ontario Canada. Music is just a hobby these days. Did the playing cover songs in bars thing for years, and it just isn’t my scene. Preference is now on the creative process, writing and recording in a comfortable no pressure environment. Have done many collaborations with artists around the world via the internet, and continue to do that from time to time.
Greatly influenced by the great Canadian singer/songwriters, Bruce Cockburn, Gordon Lightfoot, Joni Mitchell, Stan Rogers, Murray Mclauchlan. Also influenced by Van Morrison, Colin Hay, Harry Chapin, CSNY etc. Service’s music could best be described as a hybrid of folk, rock, pop and country.

For my mother, her favorite holiday season, her favorite Christmas hymn.
Thank you Brett!
It’s so thoughtful of you to have chosen your mother’s favorite christmas hymn, in her own favorite season!
Lovely!
My mother’s spirit is most often here with me this time of year. As I bake, wrap gifts, decorate my home.. my mother is with me. Maybe she helped shape this being also my favorite seasonal holiday.
Thank so much Tee for being part of this this by sharing your thoughts with me. So meaningful to me.
This seems to be popular this season, I saw a different recording on another blog. But I am spoilt, and can’t get away from my favourite version, vocal and orchestral:
Yes it is. You and my mom have the same taste in vocalists ms.Mario’s version is on my turn-table this week actually. One of the things I inherited from my mother was her record collection.
Mario Manza, Johnny Mathis, & Frankie Lane are prevalent in said collection and my love for big orchestrated pieces I also inherited from my mom.
The trouble is every time I respond to a comment I end up playing it yet again. I don’t think I can tire of it.Is your mother’s record the same as mine? The Christmas carol album that starts with Joy to the World, and includes Guardian Angels around my bed. I love those two as much as O Holy Night.
My mother loved tenors, but she never rated Lanza. I have no idea why not. Her favourite was Bjorling. Anyway, maybe I could have found something to chat with your mother about. Music is a broad spectrum (!) and brings us all together.
I know what you mean; any music post will spark another desire to hear another version, then for me that will spark another artist, another tune….it becomes infectious. In a good kind of way.
You & my mom would have found many topics along with music to chat about. I think it was the only way my mom was ‘worldly in any way was through her music she played, sang, and listened to. She would have loved the idea of meeting someone from so far from the only place she’ had ever known.
Her Mario Christmas album I inherited is the same it sounds like. I like knowing this, that we both have the same vintage music in our collections. I agree, music is fabulous common denominator.
O Holy Night … my favorite, lil sis, thank you. Beautiful rendition.
blessings ~ big sis maxi
Dearest Maxi, why am i not surprised O Holy Night is also your favorite? I love that it is, it is yet another aspect of our kindred spirits. God bless you & yours my dear big sister. love & hugs from me ~
